though i’m a fairly unapologetic blogger throughout most of the year, believing firmly in the blogging without obligation ethos, i do miss it more at christmas. i did have plans to do a december daily again, and i have – at least in spirit. the photos are there, and some of the pages are even done. i still might.
for now though, i wanted to blog about our ‘making’ weekend.
i made four different types of cookies, to herald in the start of the christmas baking season.

the shortbread on the left is our family handed down one which you can read about here. the other three are peppermint whirls, gingerbread cookies and cranberry & pistachio shortbread, and if so motivated, you can find recipes for them on my christmas pinterest board.
I should add they’ve also been renamed cupids candycanes, prancers poop and blitzen’s bogeys by my cherubic children.

phoebe made a fairy house. this girl has always instinctively known that you catch more flies with honey, and this is a great example. we have a notoriously lousy tooth fairy in this neighbourhood, and with the loss of her last tooth, after waiting patiently for a week, she decided to get serious and spent hours yesterday creating this house.

complete with bed, glitter and fireplace (hence the chimney on the outside). tooth was placed amongst glitter on the bed later in the evening. (and i’m thrilled to add that it definitely worked, and she found a shiny golden $2 coin this morning where her tooth should have been.)

alex made a war base. there’s an explanation for all parts of this and though my eyes glazed over after while (his explanations tend to go on a bit!) i loved the birds eye view of the giant robot in its own room, and that smudged room isn’t a mistake, it’s a sauna. that’s the steam that’s smudging it. awesome.

and frank made it home, well in time for christmas and even maybe in time to put up some outside christmas lights. which will also make the kids happy.

on saturday we went to Robert Gordon Potteries where you can paint your own pot, which they fire and you collect in a weeks time (so we’re just in time for christmas!) a few weeks back the kids broke an antique bowl at their grannies’ house – it was blue with flowers so phoebe decided to paint another one for them. alex commemorated the breakage in his own way by painting a plate with patches or ‘cracks’ all over it. it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon and a lovely present idea for difficult to buy for family members!
